History of Bigfoot Sightings
The mystery of Bigfoot Sightings has garnered considerable attention throughout the years. While many people believe whole-heartedly in the possibility of its existence, others continue to doubt that Bigfoot is an actual creature. Bigfoot is often described as being similar to an ape, but with even larger dimensions. Some accounts state that the creature stands nearly 10 feet with a weight of approximately 200 kilograms. Evidence regarding the validity of Bigfoot’s existence continue to grow, although many scientists still remain sceptical on the issue.
The first Bigfoot Sightings were not documented, but rather were told as an oral history by indigenous people from the Pacific Northwest area of the United States. These Indian tribes had various names for the creature, although the descriptions were relatively uniform across all of the tribes. Even a protestant missionary related a story about Bigfoot Sightings in the late nineteenth century. However, everything changed in 1958 when a photographer captured the now famous portrait of the creature’s possible footprint.
Eric Shipton had made photographs of possible Bigfoot footprints in 1951, but it was not until Gerald Crew found large tracks that the issue came to national attention. Crew made several photographs documenting the footprints and asked a friend to create plaster cards of the tracks. It is at this point that Bigfoot Sightings began to receive attention from national media. This attention started a wildfire of Bigfoot hunters, and many people went to the forests of northern California to look for the notorious creature.
The next one of the major Bigfoot Sightings came in 1967. Two men, Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin, were in the forests of Bluff Creek, California where they purportedly filmed an ape-like creature walking a short distance. The images, known as the Patterson-Gimlin film, were immediately popular and remain to this day to be the best evidence for the existence of the creature. However, an associate of Patterson and Gimlin named Bob Heironimous denied the validity of the film, stating that he had worn a costume to help create the film. This controversy is not yet resolved and the film still stands as the most famous Bigfoot sighting.
The latest evidence for the existence of Bigfoot came in the year 2007. A hunter decided to try to capture Bigfoot in a picture by wiring cameras in specific locations with automatic triggers. In one of the images, a creature is observed, but it is unsure whether it is the legendary Bigfoot or not. Experts claim that the image is of a bear with mange, but a noted journalist, Vanessa Woods, states that the measured proportions of the animal are not compatible with those of a bear. Until further Bigfoot Sightings are discovered, the legend of Bigfoot will remain being a controversy.
